Morwell Innovation Centre
Williams Ross Architects designed a space that draws people in with the use of strong lines and warm materials at Morwell Innovation Centre in Morwell, Australia.
The Morwell Innovation Centre is the centrepiece of the wider Gippsland High Tech Park located in Morwell, 150km east of Melbourne.
For Federation University Australia in conjunction with Regional Development Victoria, it is part of the rejuvenation of the broader site which includes Gippsland Tech School, Tafe Gippsland and Latrobe City Council.
The project vision sees the centre of excellence in technology and innovation providing community benefits in skills training and economic development.
The interior design provides the function and flexibility to allow its occupants to innovate and collaborate through multi-function and shared spaces. The conference space can host seminars, lectures and cocktail functions and can be extended with large tilt up doors to the forecourt and landscape beyond. It also opens out to the foyer and kitchen to allow catering and breakout opportunities.
Individual tenancies combine with co-working facilities – a place for local start-ups to go other than the home and connect with others.
The material palette is honest and sensible. It is sustainable, reducing harm to the environment and occupants. Technology is integrated throughout with furniture selection using plug in and go concept.
