Roosevelt Elementary School
DLR Group designed a colorful and dynamic space for students at Roosevelt Elementary School in Anaheim, California.
With a focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), the new Roosevelt Elementary School replaces outdated facilities built in 1957 with a more open and user-oriented experience. Transparency at the entry immediately piques the interest of visitors, as they have a glimpse of students doing research, design, and project-based work inside the Research and Innovation Center situated above the administration lobby.
Instructional areas are designed to foster collaboration and exploration both for students and instructors through flexible, connected, and adaptable spaces that can accommodate a variety of learning possibilities from individual study to large group activities. Learning suites open directly to the outdoor learning court, a central space specifically tailored towards outdoor learning activities such as water collection and filtration, gardens, and outdoor performances. The two-story building encloses the large central learning and gathering court to enhance safety and security for students.
