Edgars Creek Secondary
Brand Architects designed a modern and dynamic space for the Edgars Creek Secondary in Wollert, Australia.
Edgars Creek Secondary College is a new education facility located in the Aurora estate in the suburb of Wollert, 26 kilometres north of the CBD as part of the City of Whittlesea local government area.
Realised over two stages, the school consists of four main double story buildings containing the Administration and Resource Centre, STEM building, Arts Centre and Learning Neighbourhoods, and a Sports Hall, all set within landscaped grounds and adjacent car park as well as a shared-use sports oval to the south of the site with connections to the surrounding community.
The five buildings are positioned to create passive and active recreation spaces externally, intertwined by a variety of planting designed to provide shade and wind protection and linked by a covered walkway on a north-west orientation.
Specialist spaces in the school have been developed to provide cutting edge spaces to support collaborative practice and student centred project-based learning. The STEM building is conceived to support a design thinking approach, while the arts centre provides flexible visual and performing arts spaces including a large theatre to support student self expression and community use.
Learning spaces throughout the project have been designed to foster collaboration and connection through a variety of formal and informal student areas where classes can gather or small groups and individuals can break away. Flexibility through the use of large sliding doors with connections to external spaces provides a dynamic education environment that students can have control over.
