Angleton High School – Angleton Technology Education (CTE) Center
PBK designed the Technology Education (CTE) Center for Angleton High School in Angleton, Texas.
Inspired by a town centre streetscape, the design empowers students to socialize, focus, be curious and be creative highlighting a main street was crucial for student engagement with the new addition. A well-connected network of paths led to this central avenue. Students were encouraged to explore curated programs and use corridors for socializing and collaborative thinking. Secluded nooks offered spaces for individual or small group study sessions.
The CTE addition seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary design elements in its exterior architecture. It integrates the high school’s existing red brick and beige block materials, harmoniously interwoven with sophisticated grey and purple metal panels — resulting in a cohesive and modern aesthetic. Additionally, the main student entry and the two visitor lobbies are symbolically linked by the CTE canopy, embodying the enduring connection between the community and the students.
The concept of a mixed-use town center has successfully brought urban elements to rural communities, fostering a sense of togetherness. Main street serves as both a pedestrian thoroughfare and a venue for public/private events. The boutiques along main street attract curious visitors, while the public seating provides opportunities for relaxation and socializing. The event hub acts as a facilitator of great accomplishments and occasions.
Each program is uniquely represented through various design elements such as changing materials, textures, or frame sizes. These visual distinctions help differentiate and communicate the individuality of each program within the overall design.
