Quinnipiac University – The Grove Residence Hall

Amenta Emma Architects partnered with Ayers Saint Gross in designing The Grove, a LEED Gold residence hall at Quinnipiac University, fostering academic success and community engagement through modern, communal living spaces.

Quinnipiac University sought to enhance its first-year student experience and establish a vibrant South Quad on its Mt. Carmel campus, recognizing the need for modern residential spaces that foster both academic success and community engagement. The traditional housing model needed reimagining to support today’s learning styles and student development goals.

In response, design architect Ayers Saint Gross, in partnership with Amenta Emma Architects, designed The Grove, a 111,000-square-foot LEED Gold residence hall that houses 418 students. The building features a mix of single and double rooms organized around 15 communal lounges, creating opportunities for both personal growth and social connection. Faculty apartments and dedicated spaces for resident assistants are integrated throughout, supporting a robust living-learning environment that bridges academic and residential life.

The Grove delivers multiple benefits that transform the first-year experience. Students gain access to modern amenities while participating in unique programming that connects their academic journey to real-world community engagement. The building’s sustainable design, featuring native plantings, rain gardens, and advanced lighting controls, demonstrates Quinnipiac’s environmental commitment. Most importantly, the thoughtful mix of first-year students with upper division resident assistants, along with the faculty presence, creates an inspiring environment for mentorship and personal development.
