Viola Wilson Elementary

Pfluger Architects designed Viola Wilson Elementary in Boerne as a nature-integrated campus that honors the legacy of a trailblazing educator while fostering collaborative learning and exploration.

  • area / size 97,446 sqft
  • Completed 2025
  • Location Boerne, Texas, , United States
  • Set at the edge of a growing neighborhood and nestled into the trees, this is the Boerne Independent School District’s first campus west of the highway – and the first named for a female educator. Viola Wilson spent over 40 years serving local students and families in this community. That legacy shows up in every detail. The design follows the slope, preserving nature and reducing waste. Windows frame the trees she loved. There are no long hallways, no idle square footage – just spaces that connect, adapt, and invite students to explore.

Warm brick, textured wood tones, and colors inspired by native trees help the building feel at home in the Texas Hill Country landscape. Inside, colors drawn from the changing seasons root students in their surroundings. The school’s open design puts learning on display – so students see ideas take shape and feel inspired to explore their own. These shared moments of discovery build connection, fuel curiosity, and turn everyday spaces into places of possibility.

A compact footprint makes every space purposeful. At the center, a two-story open-concept library acts like a town square – linking people, programs, and places, indoors and out. Learning areas flex throughout the day and transitions become opportunities – designed to keep students engaged as they move, connect, and settle into what comes next.
