The renovations at FWCS Whitney Young Early Childhood Center reimagine the learning environment to spark imagination, encourage creativity, and support curiosity.

The design at Whitney Young was guided by its identity as a Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood magnet program. This approach values self-directed learning, the environment as a teacher, and a deep connection to nature—reflected in the use of wood tones, natural patterns, and the absence of primary-color decorations. The refreshed classrooms and shared spaces are warm, flexible, and inviting, with playful textures and visual cues that encourage exploration and collaboration. Highlights include the revitalized media center, cozy seating areas, and organized shelves full of books and hands-on tools. The scope also included a new secure vestibule and office area, along with accessibility, lighting, and finish upgrades—supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment for young learners.
