When families in Boone County voiced a clear need for more accessible, high-quality childcare, community leaders listened. This groundswell of support led to research that confirmed a significant gap in available early childhood services. In response, a coalition of local agencies came together to develop a solution, engaging RDG Planning & Design to conceptualize and design a purpose-built facility that could support early learning and strengthen families in the Albion-Boone County communities. The resulting facility, The Boone Beginnings Early Childhood and Family Development Center, represents both the tangible outcome of collective visioning, and a shared commitment of the Albion-Boone County communities to invest in their future.

Modeled after the success of similar RDG-designed centers, Boone Beginnings is tailored to support early learning, strengthen families and promote long-term community vitality. The 12,400 SF, single-story building sits on four acres, and is designed to serve up to 80 children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years. It provides year-round, full-day care, and intentionally complements — not competes with — existing providers and preschool programs. Constructed using a cost-efficient pre-engineered metal building system with a gable roof, the design supports ease of construction and long-term durability. Inside, the center offers well-appointed classrooms, flexible multipurpose areas and dedicated spaces for staff and family engagement, fostering a safe, stimulating environment that supports early learning and development.

Boone Beginnings fills a critical service gap while enhancing workforce participation and economic stability. By supporting children’s cognitive, social and emotional development, the Center helps ensure a stronger, more resilient future for Boone County.
