Turie T. Small Elementary School Replacement
Little Diversified Architectural Consulting’s Turie T. Small Elementary School Replacement in Daytona Beach, embodies a nurturing, community-focused design that inspires curiosity and creativity in underserved young learners.
A bright new chapter in learning has begun in Daytona Beach, Florida, where a newly completed 103,818-square-foot elementary school now stands as a beacon of hope and imagination in a close-knit urban neighborhood. Thoughtfully designed for students in an underserved community, the school provides a nurturing environment where curiosity, creativity, and confidence can grow. It’s more than just a school building—it’s a vibrant, welcoming space where young learners are inspired to explore, discover, and dream big, surrounded by supportive teachers and a strong sense of community.
At the heart of the school is a large, open space called the Mixer, that connects the Cafeteria and the Media Center. The Mixer is a tall, light-filled area where students gather to learn together, work on group projects, and celebrate special moments. Designed for both flexibility and fun, the Mixer also becomes a gathering place for families and neighbors after school hours, helping the school serve as a true hub for the community. Just off the Mixer is the Media Center, a creative and comfortable space filled with books, soft seating, and even a TV production room where students can share their stories. With glass walls that open into the Mixer and to outdoor areas, the Media Center invites students to connect learning with both their imaginations and the world around them.
Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom doors—outside, students enjoy secure and engaging spaces that include garden beds and nature-based learning zones. The entire school has been built to be resilient and welcoming, with thoughtful features that keep it safe during Florida’s rainy seasons. From its strong foundation to its joyful learning spaces, this new elementary school is already making a lasting difference in the lives of its students and community, offering a place where every child can grow, thrive, and shine.
