Hilltop Needmore Road Elementary School
Little Diversified Architectural Consulting designed the Hilltop Needmore Road Elementary School in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, as a groundbreaking educational facility that fosters immersive, collaborative, and outdoor learning experiences.
For Wake County’s newest elementary school, Little collaborated closely with the school system to design an innovative 21st-century learning environment that supports both current and future educational needs. A pioneering program model was developed to foster immersive, student-centered learning through a variety of dynamic and adaptable spaces. The 135,000-square-foot facility is organized around central learning commons, which serve as flexible hubs for collaboration, creativity, and interaction. Classrooms open directly into these shared areas, encouraging cross-disciplinary engagement and teamwork among students and educators alike. The site design also embraces the outdoors as an extension of the classroom, featuring thoughtfully integrated outdoor learning environments that promote exploration, physical activity, and environmental awareness. In addition, the master plan—created in partnership with the Town of Fuquay-Varina—accommodates future civic development, including a Town Community Center and a Senior Center, reinforcing the school’s role as a cornerstone of the broader community.
