Edgewood Early Childhood Center
Lancer Associates, Inc. designed the Edgewood Early Childhood Center in Bloomington, as a pioneering facility that promotes early learning through thoughtfully arranged spaces and flexible design for future growth.
The Edgewood Early Childhood Center is a brand-new facility designed to set a benchmark for the future of early learning in Indiana. Serving as a daycare, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten center, it reflects the growing trend of school districts investing in dedicated early childhood buildings to support families better and address developmental needs at the earliest stages of education.
The building is arranged into two main wings: an educational wing with all classroom spaces and a service/activity wing that includes support and shared-use areas. Classrooms are clustered along two academic corridors to foster easy navigation and centralized supervision, each with dedicated storage and shared restrooms. Angled exterior walls create cozy learning nooks and invite natural light, enhancing the classroom experience.
The heart of the plan features a learning corridor that serves as a lively hub for play, exploration, and informal learning. Other highlights include infant and daycare classrooms, a versatile activity center, and a cafeteria with a movable partition for larger gatherings. A centrally located administration area provides strong oversight, while a dedicated special education wing supports a variety of learning needs. Built with flexibility in mind, the facility also allows for future expansion, ensuring it will meet community needs for years to come.
