Green Montessori Preschool
The Green Montessori Preschool in Hung Yen, designed by iDesign Viet Nam, harmoniously blends warm fired brick with playful geometric forms, fostering a nurturing and exploratory environment for young learners.
The architecture employs warm, exposed fired brick as the primary material, evoking a sense of durability and friendliness while establishing a strong visual identity that is easily recognizable from a distance.
For a building with a long footprint, bordered by neighboring houses on both sides and restricted from opening windows due to fire safety regulations, natural lighting and ventilation became major design challenges. In response, a central double-height atrium was selected as an optimal solution, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the interior while creating a vertical spatial connection.
Perforated brick walls, arranged with playful openings, not only provide aesthetic value but also function as devices for light modulation and natural ventilation, reflecting a green and human-centered educational spirit. The composition of distinctive geometric volumes, stacked like wooden building blocks, breaks away from the rigidity typically associated with school architecture. A system of metal louvers in yellow, orange, and green is rhythmically coordinated, creating a lively visual cadence that evokes growth, exploration, and the diversity of children’s personalities. By understanding the inherent psychology of young children, naturally curious and eager to explore, the design creates flexible spaces that allow this journey of discovery to unfold freely, filled with surprises that remain engaging over time.
Classrooms and other functional spaces are arranged around a well-ventilated, light-filled skylight, ensuring that children always feel comfortable and free to run, play, and explore their surroundings.
The interior is organized as an open learning environment centered on children. The overarching design language features curves, arches, and rounded corners, softening the space while enhancing safety and friendliness for children’s movement. Internal circulation is handled fluidly, minimizing the rigid feel of conventional corridors and encouraging children to move freely and explore.
The color palette of green, earthy orange, and neutral tones evokes nature, creating a pleasant atmosphere and emotional balance. Key materials include natural wood, engineered wood, safe rubber/vinyl flooring, combined with abundant natural light and indirect lighting to ensure warmth and visual comfort throughout daily activities and learning.
Overall, the project conveys a sense of warmth, openness, and safety, true to the Montessori spirit: non-impositional, encouraging interaction and experiential learning. More than an educational facility, Green Montessori Hung Yen stands as a testament to the journey of turning ideas into reality, where iDesign Vietnam has invested care in every detail, so that architecture is not only beautiful but also nurtures children’s emotions and imagination.
