Knoch School District High School Renovations & Additions
DRAW Collective’s renovations and additions to Knoch School District High School in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, enhance learning through collaborative spaces, advanced tech classrooms, and a community-focused Wellness Center.
The design for the expansion and renovation of the Knoch School District High School features a new, bright and distinct entrance for the school. A component of the new addition creates a large, multi-purpose Student Commons with collaborative learning spaces and seating for the cafeteria. Tech education classrooms were also added to the high school as part of the District’s initiative to integrate STEM curriculum. These spaces provide wood shop classes with ventilation and high-tech equipment, 3D printers, robotics technology, a video broadcasting room, and more.
The project also created significant improvements to the science classrooms and labs by completely reconfiguring the spaces. The design enlarges the classrooms and labs and adds critically needed storage space.
As the new additions to the building were being finished, the original cafeteria was repurposed to create a Wellness Center to support the physical education program, the athletics department, and for community use after school hours. This space includes weights, treadmills and additional athletic equipment, a small track, a private group fitness space enclosed at the center of the room, and a sports medicine training room and health classroom.
In tandem with the high school renovations, the design team worked on improvements to the school’s stadium, resulting in a new field surface, entrance and landscaping, as well as new tennis courts.
