Highgate Primary School Classrooms
Iredale Pedersen Hook transformed a historic building to create classrooms for meaningful learning at Highgate Primary School in Perth, Australia.
This project includes the addition of 4 primary and 4 pre-primary ‘standard pattern’ teaching classrooms on to the state listed historic site of Highgate Primary School. It is located adjacent to the significant heritage buildings created by the government office of the renowned architect George Temple Poole.
The design responds to the site at a variety of scales from the distant towers (both religious and commercial) to the scale of a child holding a pen and sitting at a desk. We seek a variety of experience that opens to the surrounding streets and distant city but allows for intimacy, while tracking and mapping the external climatic conditions.
