  • Pitá Arquitetura has designed the São Paulo Library located in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Library is located at Parque da Juventude, a park in the old Carandiru Penitentiary Complex; this is an important project all over a renovated place full of previous memories carved in the memory of São Paulo. It breaks the boundaries of its neighborhood and invites people from all over the city to enjoy the cultural benefits that it provides.

The furniture is fun and colorful, and all of the glass partitions are covered with vibrant window films to grant privacy to the recreation and research areas behind them.

On the ground floor there is the reception area, reading area, a 90 seat auditorium, and recreation rooms for kids and teenagers. There’s an outside terrace with a café and seating. The Library is organized like a book shop to attract people that are not used to reading.

Tactile floor, braille signs, and access ramps, and even specially designed desks are to accommodate visually impaired and handicapped visitors. Additionally, the space features an adult only recreational and multimedia rooms.

The library is at the central of 961 public libraries from São Paulo, across 602 of 645 cities of the whole state.
