  • area / size 7,105 sqft

  • OXÍGENO ARQUITECTURA created a professional and bold space for the Aulas 3 building at Tec de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico.

The interior design project consists of two areas, an interior space of 660.07m2 and an exterior space of 115.53m2. The intention of this project is to provide work, collaboration, and lounge areas for teachers and students in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology. The design aimed to incorporate a dynamic space with areas defined by changes in textures and sections primarily for the campus teachers. The project created ecosystems within the space that differentiate based on the need for privacy and noise reduction as you progress through it.

The architectural program is divided into public, semi-public, and private areas. It includes open and private spaces for teacher-student interaction, areas for rest and teacher training, and individual workspaces for teachers. Both teachers and students now have designated spaces for their interaction, facilitating collaboration and integration. It gives teachers a sense of belonging in a pleasant space tailored to their needs and provides students with a place to participate in the development of their university careers.

One challenge in this project was maintaining the integrity and harmony of the façade, considering the required expansion due to the architectural program. Given the age of the buildings on the ITESM campus, it was necessary to recover the existing stone facade and create an adjustment that blends with the existing architectural language.

In terms of technological innovations, the project includes equipped classrooms and spaces for virtual classes, where teachers have audio and video equipment to teach remote students. During the construction process, an important aspect was waste separation, including metal, stone, drywall, ceiling, aluminum, glass, electrical cables, and computer equipment.

The successful outcome of the project was achieved through collaboration, good communication, and the interpretation of the client’s intentions for these two spaces within their campus.
