JESSICA DESIGN GROUP was tasked to further incorporate the Unyu Elementary School Innovation Hive vision and mission in Seoul, South Korea.

Unyu Elementary School, located in Seoul, pursues a “happy school with everyone.” Since 2013, it has steadily established itself as an innovative school and has been actively operating educational activities as a future education cooperation district school, focusing on Eoullim education, colorful education, and DO DREAM culture and arts education.

In the process of developing design strategies, we explained the school’s base and also had in-depth conversations with the education team with the goal of promoting children’s emotions. In particular, I focused on creating a learning environment where more diverse activities are possible because I know how important the physical environment is to children. In particular, since there was no space for children to stay and relax in the past, the importance of a space available to all children has grown to increase their sense of belonging to school by providing spaces for children to stay. We also created elements that can provide exploratory learning, subject-specific learning, etc. as a space project that can be active not only in individuals but also in teams. As more intimate and comfortable spaces are needed for children’s emotional and social development, some of the school space has been converted into designated spaces for this purpose, and the administrative district has been redesigned as part of the project.
