Mount Jordan Middle School

  • MHTN Architects completed the redesign for Mount Jordan Middle School located in Sandy City, Utah.

Replacing a 1950’s middle school located on the same site, Mount Jordan Middle School was designed specifically to support the Canyons School District’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum and to foster student engagement and collaboration. The building features innovative teaching spaces at multiples scales to facilitate the educational process. Grade-level learning communities are centered around open, multi-class collaboration areas and team project spaces. With visually stimulating finishes and custom graphics, the building environment is a tool for learning and has become an example of how quality design can stimulate the imagination of students, faculty and staff.

The building’s interior features innovative teaching spaces called ‘Learning Communities.’ Learning communities consist of classrooms surrounding a collaboration center. The collaboration center supports multi-group, active, and project-based learning activities. In addition, small break-out rooms and ‘think tanks’ give a place for quiet individual learning or small group discussion. This variety of space, size, and function empowers educators to engage with their students. In total, the school has six learning communities defined with vibrant colors, modular furniture arrangements, an abundance of natural light, and stunning views of the Wasatch Front Mountains.
