Morgan State University – Thurgood Marshall Hall
Hord Coplan Macht and Moody Nolan collaborated on Thurgood Marshall Hall, a strategically designed mixed-use student housing facility promoting campus culture at Morgan State University.
Moody Nolan partnered with Hord Coplan Macht to develop a new mixed-use student housing facility to further the strategic growth on Morgan State University’s campus, catalyzing ongoing student recruitment and retention. Thurgood Marshall Hall provides a mix of semi-suite and apartment-style housing, including more than 670 beds for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a 40,000-square-foot dining facility serving the entire student population. The 24-hour dining space features 13 food stations with a large variety of options to suit diverse preferences. Both the University and the design team focused on enhancing student success by incorporating amenities including group study areas, a fitness center, and convenience store, and the formation of a “live, dine, learn” nexus for students.
The world-class student residence hall and dining facility forms a campus hub for student activity and strives to enliven campus culture by creating robust space for gathering. Designed to pay homage to Thurgood Marshall, former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and Baltimore native, his legacy is woven throughout the space with environmental depictions of his civic contributions.
