Flinders University – Health and Medical Research Building
Adelaide’s Health and Medical Research Building by Architectus offers state-of-the-art spaces for collaborative and innovative research, focusing on human-centered outcomes and sustainability, aiming to enhance communication within a connective environment.
The Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) is the backdrop for world-class research through its state-of-the-art spaces, including wet and dry laboratories, work areas and public spaces. The first building in the new Flinders University Village Campus, HMRB, houses scientists and staff from the College of Medicine and Public Health and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Architectus has designed spaces that facilitate collaborative, focused and innovative research and cast a spotlight on the human-centred outcomes of that research. Ultimately, HMRB aims to enhance researcher and clinician communication with the broader University community and public. Equipped to accommodate cutting-edge technologies, the building also creates a connective environment that facilitates opportunities for people to learn from each other and work together towards optimal research outcomes.
Aligning with Flinders University’s core values, HMRB targeted an International WELL Building Institute Gold rating, a LEED Gold Rating and a Green Building Council of Australia Five Star rating. The building also reflects a considered First Nations narrative and has been designed as a culturally inclusive and safe space.
Situated on a sloped site with a 14-metre fall, HMRB acts as an accessible thoroughfare to the main campus. There are also practical routes to Flinders University’s Sturt and Bedford Park campuses, Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders Private Hospital, and the new Flinders train station.
