Kangan Institute – Health and Community Centre of Excellence
The Kangan Institute Health and Community Centre of Excellence in Melbourne features engaging and interactive design emphasizing Simulation Labs, hands-on learning, and collaboration, connecting varied learning pathways and community.
The Kangan Institute Health and Community Centre of Excellence presents a wonderful opportunity to make a bold statement about the importance of contemporary Health and Community training and education and make a confident first step in the transformation of Kangan’s Broadmeadows campus.
Bendigo Kangan Institute’s blended learning model received a significant push forward during extended periods of remote learning and online delivery necessary during COVID-19 lockdowns. The new physical learning environments born out of this experience have a much greater emphasis on Simulation Labs, hands-on learning and collaboration.
The design sets out highly engaging and truly interactive environments where students work with teachers to put theory into practice. Simulation environments, formal learning, and informal study spaces are spread over three levels and connected by light-filled atria.
The Centre is home to a range of courses, including nursing, pathology, disability support, residential care, and early childhood education. The design puts these varied learning pathways on display by making simulation environments visible along key circulation paths. The building is also integrated into the adjacent Broadmeadows Town Park to connect the campus to its community.
Students will have greater autonomy than ever before to access learning resources online whenever and wherever they choose, including in the learning commons throughout the building.
