DLA+ Architecture & Interior Design transformed former squash courts at The Pennsylvania State University into innovative Kinesiology Teaching Labs and Active Learning Classrooms, enhancing adaptability and modern learning for the University Park campus.

  • DLA+ was commissioned by Penn State University to design a project for the Kinesiology Department. The project involved converting existing squash courts to meet the department’s design program. In addition to creating these new areas, the project planning has also established scalable strategies for future conversion projects, ensuring long-term adaptability and growth.

    The spaces now contain updated learning spaces, such as:
    Active Learning Classrooms
    Strength + Conditioning Rooms
    Athletic Training Education Center
    Rehab Room
    Research Center (Includes Blood Draw Area + Biometric Monitoring Equipment)
    Student Common Spaces
    Locker Storage

    Each space is equipped with technology for distance learning, providing flexibility for various teaching and learning methods. The converted spaces offer Kinesiology staff and students a modern, updated environment that supports success and improves the learning experience across the department.
