  • ATSR Planners + Architects + Engineers designed the state-of-the-art STEAM addition for Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

With the school’s original building situated to the south and a gym at a lower elevation to the north across a parking lot, the school was seeking a new space to expand their STEAM classrooms. Abundant collaborative break out space with a variety of seating arrangements and overlooking balcony make this the perfect environment for students to gather. Transparency and overhead doors create connections between classrooms and also into the Commons.

The addition includes (5) science labs, (2) art studios, ‘maker-space,’ classrooms, administration, student commons, staff lounge, and school chapel. Math classrooms are located nearby in the existing

ATSR provided full-service architectural, mechanical, electrical, technology, interior design, and construction administration services. During the planning phase, we gave tours of existing schools to test current concepts in educational design with the staff, students, and overseeing committee. Interactive computer models were used to develop and visualize the design options, receive feedback from the community and gauge direction.
