University of Utah L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building

  • EDA Architects and NBBJ designed the University of Utah L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In collaboration with EDA Architects, NBBJ completed work with the University of Utah to develop a master plan and facility program for the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building, located in the health science precinct at the University of Utah. Following completion of the facility program, the team was selected for the building’s architectural design and construction phases by the University and Jacobsen Construction.

Located at the south entrance of the health science corridor on a spectacular site, this building is a gateway landmark visible as one enters the precinct. The new L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building connects to the existing Skaggs Hall with an atrium to form the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Institute. The new building offers research spaces designed for flexibility, efficiency, and collaboration.

The entire length of the university’s health science campus is anchored at its east end by the atrium. By attracting faculty, students, and staff from across disciplines, the institute serves its purpose: to create the preeminent translational research center on campus.

In collaboration with Atelier Ten, the team developed a priority of sustainable strategies to reflect the building program, local climate and massing. Projected energy savings are 30% over baseline, or $7.5M over 50 years.
