The Westview High School
Tramonte Design Studio’s Westview High School in Houston, masterfully blends a nurturing environment with functional design, creating an inspiring space that accommodates diverse pathways for students on the autism spectrum.
The Westview School has been teaching since 1981, providing a unique, specialized, and nurturing learning environment offering outstanding educational and social opportunities for children on the autism spectrum. Tramonte Design Studio designed their 8,500 SF high school and comprehensive campus master plan. We wanted to provide a place where children felt safe, loved, and happy during their school day, and that is reflected in our design.
We incorporated a lot of The Westview School’s signature blue. This can be seen at the reception, lockers, and waiting area. The high school is divided into three different pathways for graduation: the distinguished, foundation, and modified. These pathways will provide young men and women with a strong foundation through four years of core education, preparing them for success in the next phase of their lives. We reflected these pathways in the setup of each classroom and the purpose behind the lessons being taught. As you tour through Westview High School, you see science labs, nurses’ offices, computer labs, a staff breakroom, an indoor recess area, and more.
In addition to the brand-new high school, we renovated parts of their existing lower-grade school areas. We designed canopies as a connector from the lower to the upper school to connect the grade levels. With outdoor areas for outdoor lunch and play time, Westview High School is set up to help children succeed, with personal touches and memories to be made.
